Peace and conflict studies, collaborative problem-solving, systems and scenario thinking

For more than 30 years, Adam Kahane has helped teams of diverse stakeholders collaborate to address their most important and difficult systemic challenges, including in relation to democracy in South Africa, peace in Colombia, educational reforms in Mexico, health equity in the Unites States, Indigenous self-determination in Canada, security in Europe, child nutrition in India, good governance in Thailand, and, at larger scales, drug policy, food sustainability, and climate resilience. All of these situations have involved working together across deep differences, including of perspectives, positions, affiliations, interests, and identities. In many contexts, amplified by the polycrisis, such differences seem to be spreading, deepening, and hardening, and leading to increasingly violent and intractable conflicts at all scales. This project will outline multiple possible scenarios for the future of these dynamics, with a view to reframing and enriching options for enabling peaceful cohabitation.
