Speech by Pierre Gaussens, sociologist and researcher at the College of Mexico, 2024-2025 research-fellow at the Paris IAS, on the theme "Obstetric violence, a concept of Latin American origin" ("Violence obstétricale, un concept d'origine latinoaméricaine"), during the session ‘Women and the fight for sexual and reproductive rights" ("Les femmes et les luttes pour les droits sexuels et reproductifs"), as part of the events organised by the Maison Fniversitaire Franco-Mexicaine (MUFRAMEX) to mark International Women's Rights Day on March 8.

Presentation

This meeting highlights the struggles for bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, exploring obstetric violence and the knowledge transmitted by midwives. Presentations will focus on the recognition of traditional knowledge, forms of medical violence and the importance of creating spaces where women can claim their reproductive health rights.
