Legal and Political Uses of International Criminal Law in National Courts

Raluca Grosescu, political scientist and 2019-2020 Paris IAS Fellow, presents her research project " Legal and Political Uses of International Criminal Law in National Courts. Argentina, Bulgaria, Paraguay and Romania in Global Perspective" on the occasion of the weekly internal seminar.

This project retraces anti-impunity efforts for judging gross human rights violations committed under dictatorship in Latin America and Central Eastern Europe. Through case studies of trials against former authoritarian officials (from countries such as Lithuania,
Romania, Argentina, Guatemala, Paraguay, etc.) the project reveals the key role played by national courts in the transformation and development of international law.

The session will be discussed by Raphëlle Nolez-Goldbach, CNRS researcher, Director of Law and Public Administration Studies at the École Normale Supérieure.
