Presentation by Joachim J. Savelsberg (2018-2019 Paris IAS fellow) as part of the seminar "Regards croisés sur les sciences sociales", organized by Marie Miran-Guyon, lecturer at the EHESS (IMAF) and Richard Rechtman, director of studies at the EHESS, psychiatrist at the Association de santé mentale, Paris 13e (IRIS)

Presentation of the seminar

This new, experimental 2018-2019 year-long (6 sessions) seminar, is primarily dedicated to students of the “Programme Etudiants Exilés de l’EHESS” (EEE, 3 ECTS) and to students and researchers of the “Programme national d’aide à l’accueil en urgence des scientifiques en exil” (PAUSE). It aims to promote discussion and reflexivity on how social sciences and the humanities — with their disciplines, area studies, specific methods, objects of inquiry and documentary sources — are practiced in various social and institutional contexts, in particular in the French academic milieu and in exiled students and researchers’ countries of origin. The seminar hopes to confront different perspectives and points of view on the (global) making of the social sciences, with a concern for epistemological and situational decentering. It will combine talks by both EHESS scholars and exiled students and researchers, who will be invited to present publications and debates from their home countries on various fields and transversal themes.
