Elke Morlok (Goethe-University (Jewish Studies/LOEWE RelPos)) : Divine Names, Letter Combination and Messianic Thought in Abraham Abulafia

The lecture will examine the concepts and usage of divine names in the writings of one of the most fascinating medieval kabbalists, Abraham Abulafia (1240-1291/2), the founder of the ecstatic or prophetic branch of Kabbalah. We will have a closer look at his linguistic techniques and their function in attaining union with the divine intellect. In addition, Abulafia's messianic self-perception and the messianic implications of his teachings will be discussed. Finally, the parallels with and differences from modern philosophies of language shall be delineated.

Anna Maria Vileno (Université Libre de Bruxelles) : Les noms divins dans l’œuvre de Knorr de Rosenroth : une présence voilée

Le kabbaliste chrétien Christian Knorr de Rosenroth est l’auteur de la plus large anthologie de textes kabbalistiques appartenant principalement à la tradition lourianique parue en latin dans le dernier quart du 17^e siècle. Hébraïste fidèle, les noms divins sont présents de façon discrète dans son travail de traduction. Nous nous tournerons donc vers les rares productions propres de l’auteur pour examiner son traitement des noms divins.
