Presentation

From a phenomenological point of view, value experience is a self-revealing and self-constitutive mode of consciousness, both from a singular (“me”) and from a plural (“we”) first-person perspective. Phenomenologically, experience is always also experience of oneself at least as a “minimal self” of agency and ownership (Zahavi 2010). Theoreticians of the minimal self, though, may have overlooked the extent to which value experience, however intensely directed toward other objects, is always self-revealing. This may shed a new light on issues of personhood, embodiment, agency, social cognition and social ontology. Not to mention the need in which European democracies presently are of a rational reassessment of some universal axiological truths.
