Nassima Neggaz, New College of Florida, and 2021-2022 Paris IAS Fellow, wins the 2022 SERMEISS Article/Book Chapter Awardfor her article "The Many Deaths of the Last 'Abbāsid Caliph al-Musta'ṣim bi-llāh (d. 1258)".
This award is given annually to a peer-reviewed article or edited volume book chapter from many academic disciplines in the social sciences or humanities from any time period, which exhibits original empirical and theoretical contributions to our understanding of Islam and the Middle East.
The SERMEISS - Southeast Regional Middle East and Islamic Studies Society is an affiliated organization of the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA). It was founded in 1977 to provide scholars in the southeastern United States with an opportunity to meet regularly with colleagues to share research findings and teaching concerns.
