Lecture by Pavel Lurje, researcher and curator at the State Hermitage Museum (Saint Petersburg) and 2024-2025 research-fellow at the Paris IAS (FIAS program), as part of the "Archeology in Central Asia during the 1st millenary CE" seminary organized by the EHESS.

Presentation

The lecture in the Archaeology of Central Asia series will be devoted to research at the site of Hisorak, Martshkat in the early Middle Ages, in the mountainous region of Tajikistan.

The author, who has been co-director of the excavations since 2010, will highlight the site's geographical position and historical value, and will take a fresh look at the research into its various parts: necropolis, fortifications, town houses, the palace and its fortress. Particular attention will be paid to the written documents and artistic remains discovered at Hisorak.
