Fellowship programme and eligibility

Career, degree and length of stay

The Paris IAS general programme offers residential research fellowships of nine or five months to established senior researchers (Professors, Associate Professors...) in the humanities and social sciences. They may apply:
— either for the entire academic year (9-month research stays, October through June)
— or for one semester (5-month stays, September through January, February through June).

Promising scholars at an early stage of their career are also eligible. However, at the time of the application, they must:

— be in possession of a PhD degree for at least three years
— have at least three years of research experience, full-time equivalent
— hold an academic or research position (Assistant Professor or equivalent).
As a rule, the postdoctoral activities of the candidate is an important criterion for assessing the receivability of his or her application.

Applicants residing, or having resided, in one of three French IAS (Lyon, Marseille, Nantes) are not eligible.

Nationality
Researchers from all countries are eligible. However, they cannot apply for the Paris Institute if they reside in metropolitan France, were they French or from other countries.

Disciplines
The programme is open to all disciplines in the fields of the humanities and social sciences (HSS). Multi- or transdisciplinary applications at the frontiers of life and exact sciences with a HSS component are also accepted, provided that the research project does not require laboratory or access to specific facilities.

Nota bene. There is also a possibility to apply to the Paris IAS via the European programme EURIAS
